Phoebe is an artist based in the Netherlands. Her profession as a medical doctor greatly influences her artistic work. She looks trough skin and soft tissues to see hidden beauty in the underlying anatomy and the organic forms our outer layers protect.
Concepts such as memento mori, metamorphosis and vanitas are recurring motifs throughout her oeuvre. Her work is characterized by a misalignment between the content and form of the work. She uses a rich and bright pallet to tell stories with dark themes. Art movements that have greatly influenced her work are Art Nouveau, Symbolism and Surrealism.
She has made scientific illustrations for medical scientific papers which are published in academic Journals. She also created cover illustrations for (medical) dissertations, which allows her to be more creative than within the limitations inherent in scientific illustrations.
Her love for the arts extend beyond the visual arts, as she also takes inspiration from music, books, movies and dance.
